Stumbling to find a light switch in the dark

Vaccines Help us All

Last week there was an Autism March on Washington DC the highlight of this March was Jenny McCarthy who’s son has autism. She is leading a push to have vaccines made “Green”. It is her belief that her son’s autism was caused by vaccinations or the “toxins” in them. Let me be clear here I have nothing but sympathy for the parents of autistic children, however what I dislike is how her belief can now endanger other children, Jenny McCarthy and boyfriend Jim Carey are using their celebrity status to make vaccines to be the Bogey man of autism. The problem here is there is no support for the position, there is no science that links autism to vaccines. It use to be the claim that mercury in the vaccines was causing autism, so 5 years ago mercury was removed from all childhood vaccines, it can still be found in flu shots, however there was no change in the rates of autism? So now its definitely not mercury (there was no science to ever say it was) it just that the vaccines are so full of other “toxins” they are dangerous… the more you look in to this Autism vaccination connection the more in to a conspiracy web you are drawn, a conspiracy of the US Government Agencies(CDC, FDA), the entire medical profession (AMA, AAP) and of course Big Pharma(cue the ominous music) You can go and look all this up for yourselves, and like most conspiracies they insert little lies like vaccines contain anti-freeze or ether which is demostrably false.  In the article here is why I am concerned

Many doctors worry that linking autism to vaccines could deter parents from vaccinating their children, leading to an outbreak of childhood diseases like measles, mumps and rubella, which have been virtually delimited thanks to childhood immunization but are now threatening again.

The CDC is bracing for the worst measles outbreak since 2001, with nine states already reporting cases this year. In 2006, more than 6,500 Americans were sickened by mumps, the worst outbreak in 20 years.

I understand Jenny McCarthy thinks she doing a good thing and trying to help people, but children can and will die. Thanks to vaccines we have greatly reduced the incidence of childhood death from disease. I know the article points out she says she is not anti-vaccine but when you drill in to this issue you will see what she is advocating is a high risk behavior that can have life or death consequences.

Hey she is not happy that all the current research shows no link with autism and vaccines I get that, she wants more research done, that’s great but before advocating a position which as I said can have life or death consequences she should get some hard evidence on her side first to do anything less is irresponsible.

I am not a Doctor or even a scientist but I like everyone else have access to the information and science. I encourage everyone never to take someones word for it but go and look in to the best evidence available and currently that evidence shows no link between vaccines and autism.

  1. Just a couple of things that you may not know — 1) Mercury was not removed five years ago. Doctors were allowed to use their stash until it expired, which took years. Children were still getting that same dose of thimerosal until at least 2003. It’s also still in the flu shot that pregnant women and children are urged to get. 2) Jenny and others who want greener vaccines aren’t anti-vaccine. We just want thimerosal, antifreeze, formaldehyde, ether, aluminum, etc., taken out of the current vaccines, and to have the schedule spread out a bit. 3) Vaccines do cause side-effects, doctors will tell you this. Therefore, they are not safe. No child having to deal with autism or any other vaccine-induced illness that is avoidable should have to do so.

I urge you to check out Age of Autism and a few other places that share with you the true story about vaccine studies. No studies have been done yet to show if there’s a correlation between the current full load of vaccines (and that of the past several years) and autism. It’s the overall effect of all that garbage in vaccines that is concerning, and that should be studied.

  2. Here is the problem your perpetuating that the vaccine supply is somehow unsafe, where is the evidence that vaccines are unsafe or which vaccines specifically are unsafe?. True stories are just that stories, it is anecdotal evidence that is not being bourn out with the medical science. There is no link to thimerasol and autism, its removal was voluntary. All I will ask is that you provide verifiable evidence. I have no opposition to further research being done but why are we being asked to react to something that has yet to have any science to support it claims?

  3. For a moment let’s forget the possible link between autism and vaccinations. Regardless of whether or not there is a link vaccination just cannot be pushed as the ultra safe, super protection that doctors tote it to be. Parents should be THOROUGHLY educated by doctors as to the pros AND CONS (which are numerous) of vaccinations before a SINGLE shot is given and parents should have a NO pressure choice in saying yes or no.

The United States prides itself on freedom and rights for individuals. The right of free speech, freedom of religion, the right to bear arms, the right to assemble, the freedom to vote, most importantly the right to democracy, etc…Simple, basic and inherent rights that all humans should be so inclined to have.
How far do we take forcing people to comply with limiting freedom of choice just for a so-called better society (specifically by limiting parents rights to deny vaccinations and be educated)? Isn’t that what Hitler tried to do?

“The point of a bill in the New Jersey Legislature is to ‘grant individuals the right to manage … their children’s health as they deem appropriate’.” Isn’t this a RIGHT that EVERYONE should have regardless of the situation? Shouldn’t we all be THOROUGHLY EDUCATED and the PROS and CONS of vaccinations?? Are we simply allowing modern medicine into the same position that Hitler inserted himself.

“It’s all about what scientist have long called “herd immunity”: A disease can be effectively stopped – even eliminated, like polio – when a large enough percentage of the population is vaccinated.”

In my personal opinion what scientists, large pharmaceutical companies and doctors mean by “herd immunity” is the large majority of parents and individuals who choose to blindly follow the “dominant male” into complete compliance without educating themselves. We have allowed ourselves to become a sad and extremely misled “herd” which acquires no natural immunity when we pump ourselves full of chemicals, artificially strained viruses, antibiotics, etc…that we are coerced into from the “dominant male” with no thought to the long lasting and serious affects on the human race. Most specifically OUR CHILDREN!

And because of the right to freedom of speech I can speak my mind and thank GOD for that!

Just a thought: Parents who vaccinate their children should not become so distraught over parents who make the educated choice NOT to vaccinate their children if the TRUTH is that vaccinations work as well as doctors and pharmaceutical companies would like you to believe. In the case that my child WHO IS NOT vaccinated should contract one of the childhood diseases that so many childen are vaccinated against then ALL THOSE SHOTS that these poor babies had to endure should certainly come in handy and PROTECT them from the possibility of picking up what my child has. Of course if that’s NOT the truth then I can understand why parents and doctors of vaccinated children would become distraught. You have put your child through the trauma of being vaccinated and they may have yet to endure a childhood illness that they should have been “protected” against.

And because of the right to freedom of speech I can speak my mind and thank GOD for that!

Did you know that even if your child receives EVERY SINGLE vaccination “required” they only have a 50% chance of being protected against any of the childhood diseases the shots are for. Also, most recent studies have shown that 1 in 4 children will have a SERIOUS reaction to a vaccination which means that 25% of children will have some lasting effects of being vaccinated and only 50% MAY be protected against those diseases anyway.

Several books that I would highly recommend if you are questioning vaccinations, or think they are wonderful and would like to explore both sides of the coin (which I would challenge you to do).

  4. My request has been to support claims with evidence that supports them IE…the data or at least the source. In your response you have made some major statistical claims

I would have to say I don’t know this 25% have a “serious” reaction to vaccination, which means world wide would there has to be 10’s of millions of people maybe hundreds of millions who have had “serious” reactions, this is a tremendous amount of people to have “serious” reactions. I would ask you to site a reference for these numbers ideally the original source of the information.

As to herd immunity… it is all about protecting those in the population who have not been vaccinated. It is correct that no vaccine is 100% effective, I don’t know about only 50% effective? However the theory is the population is protected based on the fact that most of the population is vaccinated thus eliminating the disease and this is variable % depending on the specific disease. However if the Herd Immunity threshold (being the % of population needed to be vaccinated to prevent the spread of disease) is no longer maintained then the control of the disease is lost and spread of the disease will go through the non-vaccinated population at a greater rate then those in the general population, which granted would also be effected. However as it goes through the non-vaccinated population it has the potential to mutate in to a form the vaccine is no longer prevents.

This has already been seen to have happened in the UK with both measels and mumps

I agree with you on freedom of speech you are absolutely free to make any claims you wish and to shout it from the hill tops and remind people in every other paragraph that you have this right. I also agree that people should be encouraged to look in to this issue and all issues. We agree on these ideals no question.

I appreciate the book recommendations and I can tell you I have not read them so I cannot comment on them at this time. I would still ask though that you provide a reference for the statistical claims you have made. I am also curious to if you are questioning the main evidence of vaccinations, that being rates of infectious disease have dropped?

  6. Hey,

For a class project, our group created a blog at utapharm.wordpress.com

Our topic is common fears and concerns about childhood vaccines.

We created a page based on the correlation between autism and vaccines. We just started it and I don’t know much about the topic yet but would love for you guys to comment on our blog. Our classmates will evaluate our blog and read your posts so it’s a way to help educate and spread your opinions on the issue.

If you have any other opinions about vaccines besides their relation to autism, we’d like to hear them as well.

This is for a pre-nursing course so we are all already open to all kinds of information relating to health and health care.

    Thanks!

    Allison
