Sarah Palin’s 17 yr old Daughter Pregnant News Released as Hurricane Pounds Gulf Coast

News broke today that Sarah Palin the Republican Nominee for Vice President 17 year old Daughter Bristol is 5 months pregnant, she is to wed the baby’s father at time still to be determined in the future.

There are a couple interesting things in this story, one is that they are releasing this information to correct a rumor. That rumor was that Sarah Palin’s youngest child (the one with Down Syndrome) is actually Bristol’s (17 yr old Daughter) and Sarah Palin faked the pregnancy. This is not true according to the Palin Family, and I would accept them at their word on that.

There is another interesting aspect to this story.

Republican presidential candidate McCain was aware of Bristol Palin’s pregnancy before he chose her mother for his running mate, the aide said.

“Senator McCain knew this and felt in no way did it disqualify her from being vice president,” said the aide. “Families have difficulties sometimes, and lucky for her she has a supportive family.”

They have known about this pregnancy and choose to release the information as Hurricane Gustav is pounding the gulf coast. Fox news was the first to break this story at approximately noon today, followed by the other news outlets.

Is it a coincidence this information is released at the same time a massive hurricane dominates all news? We certainly can consider that it’s just a coincidence, but it’s just not sitting well with me that the campaign knew this information and choose today during the height of the storm to release the information. It just smells of an attempt to bury the headline. On this one I think I have to call shenanigans on the McCain Campaign.

Your thoughts?

Sarah Palin is a Creationist ID Supporter

It has begun, the google search of Sarah Palin turns up some interesting information about John McCain’s new VP running mate aside from her being currently under investigation in Alaska for abuse of power. She also thinks that creationism should be taught along side evolution in school… that in my book disqualifies her from my personal vote. This shows a lack of critical thinking on her part, as it is clear in the article she does not understand what a scientific theory is.

Palin was answering a question from the moderator near the conclusion of Wednesday night’s televised debate on KAKM Channel 7 when she said, “Teach both. You know, don’t be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it’s so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both.”

Is she also in favor of teaching that the Earth is really flat as some people believe?
She has already been taken to task on these comments back when they were made over at the science blog Afarensis

It seems the assault on science is to continue.

UPDATE: It’s been 20 minutes and news has come out that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is currently under investigation for abuse of office!

Now, one of the bright new stars in the Republican Party has suddenly become tarnished. The state legislature this week voted to hire an independent investigator to see whether Ms. Palin abused her office by trying to get her former brother-in-law fired from his job as an Alaska state trooper.

Reflections on Boston

View from the hotel in Back Bay MIT is across the Charles

View from the hotel in Back Bay MIT is across the Charles

This past weekend I returned to Boston for the first time since I left to come back home to NY 4 years ago. I went to college in Boston and lived in the Hub for 8 years… it was a great time in my life, when I was there I met many amazing people and I grew in to my independence as a person. I was so excited to return mostly due to the happy occasion of good college friends who were getting married… that fact alone fills me with so much happiness but also to return to this city which was once my home was an awesome bonus.
I returned to Boston much like when I first returned to my childhood home… everything was as I remembered it but seemed smaller. It was all there but somehow I thought it must have been bigger. I spent the day with my girlfriend who also lived in Boston, we met in Boston, we began out love in Boston. It is a very special city to both of us.
We began our trip down memory lane on Mass Ave at the top of Newbury, where the Tower Records use to be, its now a Best Buy… but other than that most of Newbury is how I remember it… it only been a few years but all the old favorites were there, JP licks, Newbury Comics, Condom World, Charlies Saloon… on and on.  What did surprise us is how we use to view this as a major street and it so small and narrow…I recalled thinking how I use to feel I walked far if I walked the length of Newbury… it takes 15 minutes to walk to the whole street it not long at all…
From the shops of Newbury were entered the serenity of the Boston Public Garden… and we did something we never did as a couple in Boston we took a swan boat ride, after we did we made our way through the garden to the Boston Common and rested up on the hill, then cooling our heels in the frog pond.
We realized at this point how small Boston had become and how quickly you can cover ground in the city… we we’re already at park st… so we decided to head down to Scolley square on the way we stopped in to the Kings Cross Grave Yard of early colonists and patriots and I realized something. If you look at the head stones I think due to the limited space that most of the people buried here are not laying down they are likely standing. There is just not enough room for all the head stones to be laying down.
In to Quincy Market… this is all as I remembered it and its still mostly a tourist trap, but then we found what was really different in the city… the whole time I lived in Boston they were working on the Big Dig, it is now complete… so where the was a raised highway and massive holes in the ground there are now parks and quiet streets… You can clearly see the the north end and how nice it is. We sat and enjoyed this new area of Boston for a while, sitting on the water in the harbor. This was a new experience in Boston and was one I enjoyed very much. To complete our tour of the city we made our way in to the north end…
There is this little bakery that makes the BEST Italian sub in the city and possibly ever… its Bovas Bakery on Salem Street. If I recommend anything in Boston I recommend this! It Huge and its Delicious! This was the end of our walking tour in Boston… we had to head back to our hotel and get ready for an amazing night with old friends in celebration.
To be fair all and all our trip was great but also clearly reminded me of why we ultimately left Boston, there was a nonsense instance over at the bar the TAM on Tremont St. This is a bar I had hung out in dozens of times. On Friday night we met up with many of our old friends and decided to go to the TAM… from which I was refused entry… they only accept Passports and driver licences… total nonsense… never mind that there is no difference from a state ID card and a Drivers License and never mind that I am well overthe drinking age… the problem is in how stupid these bars are… The bouncers denied me entry to the bar, with my vaild ID while letting in a girl in our party who had no ID! Then the balls to say we have a policy… it is a joke… now rather than make a huge scene about as I was incensed to do… we pulled the 30 people in the bar out and brought them next door.  However for being lame the TAM should be ashamed, the bouncers they employe are everything that is wrong with Boston and hold the city down.
Going to Boston was an overall wonderful experience and made me really appreciate the time I spent there and fun of going back. It also made me realize how much I love living in NY and how much I appreciate living in the Mega City that NY is and the freedom that comes with it!

USA Pride Made in China

I was in Walgreens the other night and as I went to the counter I saw these National Pride Bracelets and it just speaks for itself.

I picked up a bracelet for a closer inspection.

Why are these not made in the USA, who buys this, who can buy a USA pride bracelet made in china? How is it cheaper to make this in china and ship across the pacific? It just boggles the mind… this maybe the least patriotic thing I have ever seen, less patriotic than flag burning.

Do you want to be a Billionaire

You may have caught this over the weekend but Zimbabwe has begun to issues 100 Billion Dollar notes due to the staggering inflation of 2.2 Million percent. The situation over there is just terrible and the people  need help.

The bright side is it makes the US Dollar look very nice. In recent years we have seen the decline of the US Dollar versus other currencies most notable the the British Pound and Euro… If you long for the days of US Dollar domination and when 1 US Dollar got you a boat load of another country’s currency now you have Zimbabwe, were 1 US Dollar will get you 18 Billion Zimbabwe Dollars and you could be a Billionaire!

What Do You Mean We’re Not #1

Denmark is the happiest country in the world according to a study from the University of Michigan. What?! How is that possible, everyday I am sold a bill of goods on the United States; its the best, it’s the tops, it’s # 1… we kick ass and take names… but then comes a poll that asks people how happy they are and we don’t even crack the top 10? The good ole USA is number 16 on the list… how does Puerto Rico rate higher on this list, why is it even on the list… it part of the USA.

This should be a top campaign issue for both candidates what are they going to do bring the USA back to leading the world in happiness? Where are the press conferences and the plans being laid out? There is something interesting to note

“There is also a correlation between democracy and peace. Democracies are less likely to fight each other than non-democracies.”

Almost all the countries at the bottom of the list struggle with legacies of authoritarian rule and widespread poverty

Well considering many people to this day claim President Bush stole the election and we are engaged in two wars it easy to now see why we slipped in this rankings. We need to return to peace and restore our faith in democracy. Part of the problem is Americans feel cheated if things don’t go their way… we had it too good for too long to many things going our way… oh wait no we didn’t… but we have had periods of peace and economic prosperity.

There is good news a silver lining in the study, overall people are getting happier and that’s really good for all people the trend is toward greater happiness for more people. Growth can be a painful process but we need to continue to advance our ideals and help all people by working toward peace and understanding.

Starbucks is Ruining 90’s Pop Culter

I was never a huge fan of Starbucks coffee, but now they have gone too far… they are ruining 90’s Pop Culture. How are they doing this? By closing 600 stores in the next year. This just does not conform to the idea of Starbucks being this behemoth monster of a company bent on expansion like Germany in the 1930’s. This is the company that never needed to do conventional advertising to drive customers and growth.

The classic example is from the Simpson’s, where Bart enters a mall to get his ear pierced and is told to hurry up as the store is slated to become a Starbucks, cut to Bart ear pierced exiting with a Starbucks coffee and in the background the entire mall has been turned in to all Starbucks.

Then Starbucks was unstoppable and they were popping up all over…I guess the times are pretty rough when Starbucks over estimated its growth and has now gone in to contraction mode. Is this to be part of 00’s Pop culture? Well, Starbucks that does not fit with in my American delusion so get off your bottom and let’s get building and maybe you have to throw a few ad bucks around, but stop ruining my teenage pop culture.

What’s next are we going to find out the USA is not the happiest nation in the world?

Vaccines Help us All

Last week there was an Autism March on Washington DC the highlight of this March was Jenny McCarthy who’s son has autism. She is leading a push to have vaccines made “Green”. It is her belief that her son’s autism was caused by vaccinations or the “toxins” in them. Let me be clear here I have nothing but sympathy for the parents of autistic children, however what I dislike is how her belief can now endanger other children, Jenny McCarthy and boyfriend Jim Carey are using their celebrity status to make vaccines to be the Bogey man of autism. The problem here is there is no support for the position, there is no science that links autism to vaccines. It use to be the claim that mercury in the vaccines was causing autism, so 5 years ago mercury was removed from all childhood vaccines, it can still be found in flu shots, however there was no change in the rates of autism? So now its definitely not mercury (there was no science to ever say it was) it just that the vaccines are so full of other “toxins” they are dangerous… the more you look in to this Autism vaccination connection the more in to a conspiracy web you are drawn, a conspiracy of the US Government Agencies(CDC, FDA), the entire medical profession (AMA, AAP) and of course Big Pharma(cue the ominous music) You can go and look all this up for yourselves, and like most conspiracies they insert little lies like vaccines contain anti-freeze or ether which is demostrably false.  In the article here is why I am concerned

Many doctors worry that linking autism to vaccines could deter parents from vaccinating their children, leading to an outbreak of childhood diseases like measles, mumps and rubella, which have been virtually delimited thanks to childhood immunization but are now threatening again.

The CDC is bracing for the worst measles outbreak since 2001, with nine states already reporting cases this year. In 2006, more than 6,500 Americans were sickened by mumps, the worst outbreak in 20 years.

I understand Jenny McCarthy thinks she doing a good thing and trying to help people, but children can and will die. Thanks to vaccines we have greatly reduced the incidence of childhood death from disease. I know the article points out she says she is not anti-vaccine but when you drill in to this issue you will see what she is advocating is a high risk behavior that can have life or death consequences.

Hey she is not happy that all the current research shows no link with autism and vaccines I get that, she wants more research done, that’s great but before advocating a position which as I said can have life or death consequences she should get some hard evidence on her side first to do anything less is irresponsible.

I am not a Doctor or even a scientist but I like everyone else have access to the information and science. I encourage everyone never to take someones word for it but go and look in to the best evidence available and currently that evidence shows no link between vaccines and autism.
